  • What’s the difference between a portable generator and a standby generator? A portable generator is a temporary, fuel-fed unit that powers extension cords run from the outdoors to specific appliances inside, with manual setup, refueling, and constant supervision. A standby generator is permanently installed on a pad outside the home, fed by natural gas or propane, and tied into the panel through an automatic transfer switch. When the power drops, the standby starts itself within seconds and powers either critical circuits or the whole home, depending on how the system is sized.
  • How long does a Level 2 EV charger installation actually take? A typical Level 2 install runs four to eight hours on-site for a home with available panel capacity and a short conduit run to the charger location. Homes that need a panel upgrade, a dedicated subpanel, or a longer run to a detached garage take longer and require a full load evaluation first. The installation covers a dedicated 240-volt circuit, the charger itself, and permit and inspection with the local authority having jurisdiction.
